Oviedo, Florida Community Guide for Seminole County Buyers and Sellers

Located in Seminole County, Oviedo is a wonderful city that had a population of 33,342 as of the 2010 Census.

This community, which is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area definitely has a lot to offer home buyers. Let’s take a closer look at that now!

First, A Brief History of Oviedo

This community was settled by Europeans in the late 1800s.

It got its name because early settlers wanted to make sure the community had a Spanish name to go with the Spanish name of the state. Thus, the community was named Oviedo, which is a community in northern Spain.

Modern Day Oviedo

Located along the Central Southern edge of Seminole County just minutes from the University of Central Florida, Oviedo is one of the county's fastest growing cities and it encompasses over 15 square miles.

In fact, several publications have recognized it as an outstanding place to live!

For instance, CNN Money Magazine ranked Oviedo #100 on its top 100 places to live in 2009.

It also was listed as one of the Top 10 Towns for Families in Family Circle's August 2011 issue

Another claim to fame is that Oviedo was voted Best Places to Raise Kids in Florida in Businessweek for 2013.

Meanwhile, parents with school aged children will be pleased that their children will attend some outstanding public schools within the Seminole County Public Schools system.

This school system is comprised of 6 public elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools.

The Neighborhoods of Oviedo

Perhaps one of the reasons people love living here so much is that it’s home to a number of excellent and established residential communities.

These include: Whispering Woods, Aloma Woods, Remington Park, Carillon, Little Creek, Sanctuary, Kingsbridge, Riverside, Riverwind Apartments, Twin Rivers, and Bear Creek.

There are also a number of newer subdivisions as well, including the Oviedo Forest, Providence, Clayton's Crossing, Stratford Green, the Trails, and Live Oak Reserve.

For as much as Oviedo residents take their professions and school seriously, they also love having a good time as a community.

Thus, this community is home to a number of outstanding annual events, including: Taste of Oviedo, Oviedo Womans Club Great Day in the Country, Oviedo Winter Springs Chamber of Commerce Taste of Oviedo, City of Oviedo 4 July Celebration and the Oviedo Historical Society Monthly Farmers Market.
