Rich History
One of the oldest municipalities in Central Florida, Maitland was named after Fort Maitland, which was built in 1838 during the Second Seminole Indian War. After the Civil War, the area was used for extensive citrus production. Some of these farms still remain. Historical homes dating from the late 1800's are open as working museums and visitors can experience how life would have been.
